Bethany Hamilton was a name that none of us knew until her unthinkable shark attack in 2003.  In April 2011 her autobiography, Soul Surfer, was released as a major motion picture and now today, Bethany Hamilton is a name almost everyone is familiar with.   As you can imagine, after the shark attack Bethany struggled with many trials which took a toll on her self confidence.  After overcoming her struggles with losing an arm and the possibility of never surfing again Bethany is back in the water competing in the ASP World Professional Surfing Tour.   The other thing that gave Bethany a boost of confidence was the fact that she improved her smile with the Damon Braces system.  Bethany can now smile through adversity with confidence.  When asked she will tell you “after being treated with Damon Braces I couldn’t be happier. As many of our patients start preparing for spring sports, Dr. Vincent and our team at Vincent Team Orthodontics would like to remind our patients wearing braces to take care of both your mouth and appliances while participating in contact sports (and non-contact sports) this spring.

After all, we know this is a busy time of year sports-wise, whether kids are playing soccer in the park or practicing for high school baseball or lacrosse.
Remember, only by using a mouth guard can kids with and without braces avoid serious sports injuries. All you have to do is ask us. Dr. Vincent will provide one for you. It is important that you do not use one of the fitted “boil at home” mouth guards while you are in orthodontic treatment. We are working hard to move your teeth, which means that any fitted mouth guard will work against us and slow down or halt your orthodontic progress.
